What is Ayurveda?
The word Ayurveda comes from the Sanskrit `ayuh' (life) and `veda' (truth, knowledge). That is to say, the “science of the life”. Ayurveda is the traditional medicine, the natural of India and probably oldest curative system of the world. It has been having his origin in the Vedaic era, for more than 5,000 years. For that reason it has been defined as “the mother of all the treatments”. International level, it was recognized by the World-wide Organization of the Health (the WHO) in 1978 like traditional medicine.

Which is the main characteristic of this system of treatment, What makes it different from the

  western medicine?

In ayurveda, the treatments do not only look for to cure the body, but also to relax the mind. According to this medicine, the diet, the life habits, the seasonal and emotional changes can unbalance the personal harmony and be translated in toxins, that produce malaise (malestar) or disease. A chemical detoxication, denominated Panchakarma is required to give back to the patient the balance between their body, mind, and spirit. According to Ayurveda, this harmony is the true health.

Of what  this treatment for the elimination of toxins consists?

Ayurveda gives a special importance to the massages that stimulate the sanguineous and lymphatic circulation and eliminate therefore toxins, using essential plants and oils. One of the most important principles of the ayurvedic treatments is that they must be realised with natural products, avoiding anything synthetic. If something is not of a quality good enough to be eaten, it's not good enough either to be used on the skin. For that reason these treatments are done only with natural plants, grass and oils, as well as milk, fruits and honey.
  .............................................................................................................................................
For whom especially east natural treatment is indicated?

Panchakarma is a program of purification, revitalisation and rejuvenation destined to a global completion. For that reason it is applicable to all type of people, with no exception, and to all kind of problems: emotional, physical and psychological. The classic texts establish that everybody needs panchakarma. The people who enjoy good health would even have to receive, at least, one week of this treatment every year. The seasonal changes are specially propitious moments.

Which are the most important effects for the patient who is put under panchakarma?

Diverse scientific studies, done in the United Kingdom, the United States and India, demonstrate that panchakarma, among others effects, increases the capacity of hepatic chemical decontamination, prevents the factors with cardiovascular risk and, in only three months, is able to increase in a 80% an intestinal peptide that acts like coronary vasodilator. Also it reduces the total cholesterol and it increases cholesterol HDL in a 7.5%. To this reduction of the corporal ailments it is necessary to add the increase of the emotional stability, the vitality, the vigor and the corporal strength that feel the patients, which them aid to fight better stress, the fatigue, the depression or the anxiety.

Also the techniques of diagnosis of the diseases are peculiar in Ayurveda. How the ayurvedic
  doctors diagnose?

The ayurvedic treatment begins with an exhaustive study of the person to determine which is its constitutional psychophysiological type, which includes as much mind as body. When discovering the basic nature of our “body-mind” we take the first passage towards the perfect health, that consists of understanding to us same, in understanding what it is happening in our interior. Ayurveda establishes three great psychophysiological types: the VATA or nervous, PITTA or visceral and KAPHA or emotional.
  .............................................................................................................................................
How are the people that belong to these three psychophysiological types?

The vata people, are of a sensible nature. Usually they are thin people, of status average, slight and flexible body. They are sensitive, reserved and creative. The vata needs time to reflect. Pitta are of a fighter nature, of stature average and physical constitution hard. They are dynamic, very perseverantes, ambitious and disciplined people.
They have a great necessity of challenges, competitiveness and physical movement. Finally, kapha has a robust constitution and great and heavy bones. They love the pleasures, they are patient and comprehensive and they have a great necessity of social harmony. There are in addition several combinations to these three types (vata-pitta, pitta-kapha, etc…) until forming seven groups. Once the physiological type of each person is settled down, the ayurvedic doctor can realise the diagnosis, essentially through the technique of the taking of the pulse.
  .............................................................................................................................................
Of what this diagnostic technique consists?

In Ayurveda, the symptoms of a disease always are related to the three imbalances of doshas: body, mind and spirit. With the taking of the pulse, the ayurvedic doctor or vaidya, determines the effects of the imbalance that have caused the disease, deepens still more to determine the origin of the imbalance and proposes the treatment necessary to arrive again at the balance.
  .............................................................................................................................................
In addition to the diagnosis and the treatment of the physical diseases, how treats Ayurveda the
  mental and spiritual health?

A method exists to improve the mind and to reach a level mental and spiritual superior, based on the unfreezing of the psychological tension and the abandonment of negative unconscious beliefs. This method, call satvajaya, includes the therapy of mantra or therapies of the sound that changes the vibratory models of the mind; yantra, with geometric figures to take the mind outside the daily thoughts; tantra, to direct energies through body; the meditation, to alter states of the knowledge, etc…. The techniques of satvajaya release of the negative emotions and models of thought and prejudices to us that condition our life.
  .............................................................................................................................................
One of the characteristics characteristic of the regions of the world where Ayurveda for thousands of
years is applied is the longevity of its population. It responds this to the use of some type of Ayurvedic treatment?

Generally, after any type of chemical decontamination treatment, the ayurvedic doctors begin with the patients a program of tonificación, rasayana call, to heighten the capacity of the body to work well, to improve the armony of the physiological system and to restore the vitality of the system. One says that the rasayana increases the longevity, delaying our biological clock and, in this way, the process of aging. This treatment restores fine tissues and the organs of the body by means of special grass, prepared like pills, dusts or ointments, and specific mineral preparations of the condition and dosha of each person.

We have still not spoken about yoga, that is perhaps the aspect more known of Ayurveda in the
West. To what yoga helps us, according to the ayurvedic medicine?

The word yoga means union. One talks about the process of union of the individual being with the universal being who causes a mental state of calm and calmness in all the situations. I am ayurvedic professor of yoga, a modality of yoga especially conceived for the women and by women, yoguinis, who have developed this discipline during millenia. The main benefits are the balance of the nervous system, the corporal invigoration, the rejuvenation and the hormonal balance. The effects are obtained through breathing exercises, the transcendental meditation and the relaxation, with which it awakes brings back to consciousness and the perfect state of the psychic and physical balance. That is, as it said at the outset, the key of the true health.
